Markham Librarian Selected for the 2020-21 PSLA Leadership Institute

The Pennsylvania School Librarians Association announced that Markham Elementary School Librarian, Ms. Jackie Fulton, was chosen to be a member of the 2020-21 PSLA Leadership Institute for School Librarians (LISL). The Leadership Institute for School Librarians (LISL) has been developed for those who aspire to lead at a higher level through strength-based leadership and situational leadership. This project is made possible in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, Governor. The 2020/21 Pennsylvania School Librarians Association’s LSTA grant is focused on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

The 2020/21 Leadership Institute for School Librarians is providing professional development, training and strategic planning in EDI to embed these pillars throughout the association’s practices. The goal is to also advance Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Pennsylvania school libraries and education. Ms Fulton participated in three 90-minute initial training sessions in November 2020 provided by School Library Journal/Media Source Information Services. She has also volunteered to be a mentor to other school librarians and will be offered participation in one of two online courses titled Equity in Action and focus either on antiracist culture or building diverse library collections

“On behalf of the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association, a professional organization of school librarians, I would like to recognize the dedication of Jackie Fulton,” said Cathi Fuhrman, Ed.D., PSLA Immediate Past President. “I am grateful for the time and effort that Jackie has volunteered for.  Please take pride in the fact that the Mt. Lebanon School District has such a motivated and committed educator who works to advance the profession to ensure quality education for students and is committed to providing a diverse and inclusive learning environment for students. I am honored to recognize Jackie Fulton for her work and commitment to providing equitable, diverse and inclusive school library programs for PA students.”
